Meet the Grady Bunch! Hometown Hero, Tom Mattocks

Tom Mattocks

At 5 years old, Tom became ill with polio, after a shortage of the vaccine. His prognosis was poor as his parents were told he would never sit up again. Through the determination of his parents, his unwavering work and positive attitude he has had a full, active life. Though he has been confined to a wheelchair since childhood, he has worked, served his community and has been an outstanding family man. He has always loved football, taking on the role of manager for his high school team, though he could not play himself. He is active in the community and has NEVER let his disability hold him back, nor has he ever complained about his limitations. He has always set the example for his two children, four grandchildren and extended friends and family that all dreams are possible with hard work and perseverance.
